Characteristics: Maggie is being surrendered due to owner’s health; Maggie is mostly a calm and relaxed dog. She does get happily excited when someone first enters the house or back yard but soon settles down. Due to my medical issues we have been mostly housebound for at least a year. Her energy level has dropped considerably during this time and she needs someone that can give her a more active lifestyle. She would probably be better placed in a home without small children. My niece kept her for a week in late December. She has two very young daughters. Maggie bonded with them very quickly and was protective; she reacted by barking at my niece when one of her girls was fussing loudly as she was trying to dress her. On very few occasions Maggie has growled when I tried to take a chewbone from her but she has never snapped or bit.
Notes from evaluator: Maggie appears not to have any stranger-danger at all! Barb (owner) was waiting in the garage with the door open when I pulled into the driveway and Maggie couldn’t wait to come meet me. She was so excited and just wanted pets and attention (treats too). She is super sweet! I took her for a walk and there were some construction guys across the street and she did pull a little but she just wanted to go check them out and she was happy when they were petting her. She did very well with dog test with my male rottie and they were introduced by parallel walking. That went well so we got closer together and she may have been a little timid but no barking, growling or other sign of aggression. After a few more minutes, they were sharing the same space and she may have been a little cautious but very friendly throughout the entire encounter. Valentino drank from her water bowl in garage and Maggie was totally fine with that. I think she will be fine with other dogs but probably a more laid back dog would be ideal since she is used to her own space. Owner say Maggie loves her car rides (although she will need assistance with her additional weight) and she just wants to be in your lap! Maggie needs a home where she can be more active since she has gained quite a bit of weight since her owner got sick but she is a real lovebug who clearly adores people and did fine with a new large male dog. Maggie knows sit, wait, shake and hello (she will bark hello upon the command).

Temporary 30-Day Freeze on Intakes: Due to the influx of rotties recently brought into MARR with medical issues requiring treatment and surgery, MARR is placing a temporary freeze on intake processing, effective 5/4/22.
