Bio on our website from a volunteer:
“Hi there, my name is Libby and I am 70 pounds of sweetness and charm. I came to WCHS as a stray so my history is a bit of a mystery but one thing that is no puzzle is what a friendly gal I am. I am outgoing and tolerant but I do prefer my canine playmates to be calm and polite; I have enjoyed playgroups at the shelter and am not pleased with crazy and rambunctious dogs. Speaking of manners, I must confess that I could use some training on that front. I will greet you when you approach but have been known to jump up on folks when I say ‘hi’. I am an active girl and love to go on walks with people but tend to pull a bit on a leash, so I guess I could use some practice on that as well. I am smart and already know the cues for ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘shake/paw’. It would be lovely to take some classes with you because mental exercise is important to me too. Perhaps we could participate in obedience, rally, canine sports or nose work. I am affectionate and playful; a real lap-lover who would enjoy snuggle sessions after a day filled with fun. I promise to be loyal and think I could fill your home with love. I hope you stop by to meet me in person because I like to expand my circle of friends and think you will find me impressive.”
Additional information:
Libby came to WCHS as a stray. She was initially very shy with anyone new and was slightly underweight. Now she is great with the staff and volunteers that handle her regularly. She has been introduced to multiple dogs here and has gotten along well with the majority of them. She sometimes like to police other dogs when they’re playing, and had one incident with another dog (no injuries).
She is very food motivated and super smart. She came to us already knowing sit, down and paw. Libby loves attention. She enjoys playing and going for walks, but is also content laying quietly in her kennel. Libby is a very fun and easy dog to train. She easily maintains focus on her handler. We can’t guarantee that she is housetrained, but she does keep her kennel clean overnight. She enjoys short spurts of playing fetch.
When new/certain people walk past her kennel she can unfortunately be very reactive. It is because of this that we have her available for adoption from the back part of our shelter, rather than physically on the adoption floor. When meeting new people she needs a slow intro with lots of praise and treats. She has now been with WCHS for two months without any real adoption interest. We have reached out to our own foster base to get her a break from the shelter without any luck.
