BIO:

Harley is a huge, goofy guy who loves naps and snacks. Don’t we all?? Harley is 8 years old and he came into rescue with a LOT of extra weight, some arthritis, and a bad attitude. Harley is feeling MUCH better now after a healthy weight loss and less stress on his joints!! You can see in his video that he has that happy rottie trot back! He can still be a bit stiff in the morning, but he quickly loosens up.

Harley has a few quirks which have improved since coming into foster, but will probably remain his entire life at this point. Harley will sometimes covet something you drop, such as a sock or a paper towel, and he will grab it and get very defensive about it, growling and showing his teeth. Typically, we either ignore him (no, I don’t want your paper towel Harley) and he will eventually put it down, or we trade him for a yummy treat like a hot dog piece or lunch meat slice. He has done this less and less as time has gone on, but we occasionally see it. Also, Harley can be super defensive about having his body handled intensely, like for nail trims, ear cleaning, etc. He wants to growl and avoid it if possible. So for that reason, Harley is muzzle trained. He still growls and expresses his displeasure, but we are able to get things done when needed. He will come with his muzzle when adopted along with instructions on how to use it.

When he is not being a grouch (which really isn’t very often!) he is a goofy wiggle butt who just wants to have his booty scratched. He knows sit, and shake. He also knows kennel. He is very good in the house and can be trusted to be left out on his own. He appreciates a soft bed and a pillow. He also appreciates a full water bowl. He is very well potty trained and he LOVES….I mean loves…. walks and car rides. He walks nicely on a leash. Harley is pretty good with other dogs, but he’s a tad awkward when introducing himself, so it should be a slow and low pressure intro. He is very playful once that part is over. He has met a few cats, and after realize that they don’t want to play with him, he tends to just leave them be. A gradual intro there would also be good. Harley LOVES men. He loves his foster mom, but he ADORES any guy who greets him. He can’t wag his stub hard enough! He also loves children and would be fine around them as long as the resource guarding is discussed and kids know how to deal with that scenario. His foster human siblings are ages 11 through 20 and can handle him safely. Harley would like a retirement home to watch the sunsets out the window and nap on a soft bed, and maybe take a car ride here and there. A home with some big stubborn dog experience is ideal, due to his quirks. But trust me – he is worth it!
