Characteristics: commands but really working hard on stays and not jumping. He was adopted from Creston Animal shelter
at approximately 8 months with a crooked left lower front leg due to a growth plate break as a puppy-due
to this he takes glucosamine tablets daily. He is allowed to roam a 2-acre yard in the country and has an
open gate all day when not roaming he is in the house while we work from home. He walks nicely on a
leash but has not been taught heel. He says in a kennel over night with a blanket or bed in the kennel.
When he is left home alone bedding must be removed as he will tear it apart. He lives with 2 cats and tries
to play with them but needs to be reminded he’s bigger than them. He does well with chickens, and dogs
of all sizes but can forget his size with smaller ones.
He does have guarding behaviors with food and once in the yard when someone reach over the fence.
(This does not happen often in the country). We have not fed him in a room with other dogs and watch
him closely if the cats are around. He will growl at people when they reach for his bowl, so we have always
had him sit before reaching for his bowl. He eats very quickly and uses a bowl to try to slow him down.
He can be whinny at times and will bark at you when he needs more attention. He doesn’t do well with all
men. He is very skittish with my husband and has barked and growled at him on two different occasions.
The remaining time he avoids him. He has lunged at other while on leash but then does well with the UPS
man and one other male. He does well with older children and is too hipper with small children. He doesn’t
prefer to get in vehicles but is calm and well in them. He does well with toys. We have not fed him in a room with other dogs and watch him closely if the cats
are around. He will growl at people when they reach for his bowl, so we have always had him sit before reaching for his bowl. He eats very quickly and uses a bowl to try to slow him down.
