BIO: Ruth has never met a stranger.  The moment you pet her, she makes you feel like her whole world would come crushing down if you stopped petting her.  She loves her humans!  She is easily introduced to all types of people with no issues other than you might get pushed over when she leans in to you for more belly rubs.  If you stop petting her, she gets a little excited and sometimes jumps up to get more of your attention.  We are working on her manners and teaching her that jumping up won’t get her what she wants, now if only I could train the kids to stop giving her attention when she jumps!  She is getting better but needs consistent re-enforcement to not jump for your love.

Ruth is a 3 year old, 78lb mixed Rottie with a little bit of puppy energy left but mostly she is a calm and low-key lapdog.  She loves to lay on her back and snore a little while enjoying those endless belly rubs.  She is mostly house-trained but I can’t say that for the kids.  We are working to teach her how to tell us when she has to go out.  When mom is watching her we have no accidents.  But when teenagers are watching her, she has had a few accidents because let’s face it, is a teenager really watching her?  Nothing that an eating schedule and routine won’t fix immediately in her forever home.  We have left her in a crate and mud room for the day with no accidents.

Ruth loves walking, sniffing, rolling around in the grass, chasing toys, chewing bones and running in circles hopping around like a kangaroo when the mood strikes.  She has a few basic commands but she is learning more basic obedience.  Once she has mastered all the basic commands such as stay, come and heel, she will be an awesome best friend for life.  She is getting better each day with her manners.  She is very food focused along with positive reinforcement.

Ruth would do better in a home with humans to love her but no so much with other animals.  She gets very excited when she sees cats, dogs, horses, geese or stuffed animals.  When she learns more self-control through basic obedience she might do better with other animals over time, but at the moment any moving object is a challenge to be played with.  On our first day, Ruth managed to get close enough to the kitty for one second to say hi and ended up with a quick claw to her right eye which ended in surgery to save her eye.  She is healing nicely and we hope for a full recovery of her eye.

If you are looking for a best friend to share your love and life with, Ruth just might be the one for you!  She needs regular exercise to burn off some of that energy but then she is ready to follow you around and find your resting hand at any moment to scratch her head.
