BIO: Frankie is a young, very handsome, very high energy Rottie/”hound” mix who was brought in as a stray to a Kansas shelter. Within hours of being euthanized, MARR rescued him and gave him another chance!

While Frankie was in the shelter, he was very thin and fearful of anything new. Since that day, Frankie has improved in foster care and is now about 80 lbs with a beautiful shiny black coat. He is still gaining confidence and will need an owner who is patient and understanding as he grows. He is still very unsure of new sounds and situations, therefore his owner will need to be committed to helping him overcome his fears and regain his lost confidence. Frankie requires daily engagement and interaction to build the bond with his pack, regain his confidence and to establish mutual trust.

Frankie is a very smart, highly energetic guy who loves to play and run! Did I say he likes to “run”??! He has developed a love for toys, especially rubber balls that squeak and is quite the master “squeaker killer”! He loves to retrieve any ball that is thrown and routinely bursts into a case of the “Zoomies”. A 6 ft high, fully fenced yard that provides plenty of space to play, explore and run is necessary. Frankie is excited to go for daily walks and improves each day healing on a lead. Another highlight for Frankie is when he gets to ride in the car or truck. He sits like a gentleman while his harness is put on, then takes himself out to the vehicle and waits until you tell him to get in. He loves to look out the window and will usually just settle right down for a nap, confident his human knows where he is going! Frankie has learned several basic commands, including sit, down, stand, wait, stay, drop-it, and No. He patiently sits and waits for his food until he is given the “OK” signal to come eat. He is very gentle and has not exhibited any resource guarding of food or toys.

Frankie has also been learning to interact and play with other dogs, both large and small. He does best with dogs that are not aggressive or hyper, which helps him to not get over-excited himself. His confidence around other dogs will be bolstered if he is allowed careful, slow introductions. Frankie has not been tested around cats, however based on his reaction and interest in them during walks, a home without cats is a must. Frankie is cautious with new people and will warm up to them after slow introductions and easy interactions. He has not been around many children but it would be best if the family does not have toddlers, just because he is so active and could possible knock them over. Frankie’s not much of a cuddler and tends to shy away from close, restrictive contact.

Frankie is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations and micro-chipped. A family that is looking for a loving, very high energy boy, who loves to play, run, go for walks and be active with his pack will be a perfect match for him!
